Region 3 EAC Report - IEEE Southeastcon 2010 In addition to the goals for the EAC committee given in the the last report filed, the following additional goals stem from the report from the special review committee chaired by Roy Harris. 1. As mentioned in the special committee report, the Educational Activities Committee abandoned the practice of having a yearly meeting (at Southeastcon) a number of years ago. The special committee mentioned that this equates to the local educational activities representatives becoming disengaged and thus requires most of the work to be completed by the EAC chair. The EAC chair will therefore work with the Region 3 leadership to find an appropriate solution to this issue either by revising the charter for the EAC or reconstituting the roles of local EA representatives. 2. With the resolution of the first issue, the EAC will develop and maintain an agressive push across the region to re-engage members into educational activities. The reason for this need is two-fold: as the region faces a crisis in a shortage of STEM and other IEEE professionals, EAC needs to work with the other appropriate regional entities to help attract more people into these areas and eventually into the IEEE Region 3 fold. The second reason is that jobs that are being lost to the outsourcing of traditional electrical and computer engineering areas, are slowly being replaced in renewable/smart energy and green engineering areas. 3. The region 3 EAC needs to re-visit previous chairs to fill-in for gaps in reporting of yearly goals and outcomes. 4. The EAC web site is not current. The EAC chair needs to work with the Region IT/WEB representatives to update this information and put a process into place such that this information remains current. Respectfully submitted, Bruce L.
