IEEE Savannah Section Chair Report for March 2010 Region 3 Meeting 16 March 2010 We have no issues requiring Region 3 attention at this time. Section Activities: The Savannah Section of IEEE had a full calendar in 2009 and we look forward to our 2010 meetings and events. Our next meeting is this Thursday, March 18th at the Georgia Tech Savannah campus. The topic will be "Semiconducting III-nitride nanowires: FETs, LEDs, and lasers." The presenter will be Dr. Benjamin Klein from Georgia Tech Savannah. Our February 2010 meeting was held in conjunction with the Savannah E-Week Technical Training Conference on February 16 at Armstrong Center. This year's theme was "Staying Alive: Sustaining, Innovating & Managing." Last November we had an excellent presentation at Armstrong Atlantic State University by Tom Croft. The topic was An Alternative Theory of Global Warming. Our October 2009 meeting was in conjunction with the Area 3 Meeting and Picnic on October 17 at the Museum of Aviation Flight and Technology Center at Robins Air Force. We joined the Atlanta Section, Central Georgia Section, and the Atlanta Life Members Group for the excellent tour and festivities. Our September 2009 meeting was at Georgia Southern University. We had a double-header with Dr. Rios-Gutierrez and his students giving a presentation on their robot entries at the SECON and the phenomenal growth of their student section. Followed by a tour of Dr. Soloiu's Bio-Fuel Laboratory. As you can see, we've been fortunate to rotate our meetings throughout the area, including the region's various universities. Hosting at least some of our Section meetings on University campuses has definitely led to an increase in Student member participation. As always, you are always welcome to attend one of our Section meetings. Details can be found at https://ewh.ieee.org/r3/savannah/. Please let me know if you have any questions.
