Happy new year!

We had several successes last year and several challenges that remain. I look
forward to working with Director Stogner and you on the existing challenges as
well as continuing our successful efforts.

Thanks to the Florida Council for the invite and the good meeting on 11
December in Orlando. Donghui Wu reports on the meeting in his report. They
have an active organization and are working hard to continue their outstanding
efforts in the face of challenges such as reduced finance and small reduction
in available volunteers. They shared overviews of each of their section
meetings as part of their discussions.

I would like to visit other areas and councils and participate in meetings
where appropriate. Please touch base with me and lets see what can be
scheduled and how I can continue to learn and help IEEE in Region 3.

One of my goals will be to carry out several planning efforts this year:
 1. Sections Congress Recommendation Development (with Section Congress
    Coordinators)
 2. Region 3 Conference Strategy (with SPC, Conference Committee)
 3. MGA Strategic Direction Elaboration (with MGA flowing to Region 3)
 4. Region 3 Strategy for 2012 (with Region 3 SPC)
Major questions related in this mix include
 1. What should be the forwarding looking role of the geo-units 
    (Regions,Sections,Chapters)?
 2. What resources and support is needed?
 3. What metrics should be used to evaluate progress and give feedback?

Goals for 2011:

* Work on a planning effort for Region 3 to encompass Sections Congress,
  MGA, Region 3 and its sections
* Visit at least four Area/Councils
* Actively participate on Region 3 Committee, the ExCom, and Region 3
  Committees as appropriate and required
* In support of and in coordination with Director Stogner and the 2011 
  Region 3 Goals and Objectives, enable and encourage Region 3 committees
  to be effective in fulfilling their charter.

As an action report for 2010/1 since my last report, I have

* Assisted Director Stogner as requested on a number of Region issues.
* Visited the Florida Council in Orlando for their last meeting in 2011.
* Continued other non-Region 3 IEEE duties (Secretary, Past Treasurer,
  Governance, Board,  vTools and related activities)
* Attended IEEE Board Meeting (in November)
* Participated in discussions with N&A on filling vacancies on the ExCom
* Participated in MGA Assessments and Allocations Ad Hoc Committee
* Agreed to serve on MGA Strategic Direction and Environmental Assessment
  committee
* Agreed to continue on IEEE MGA vTools Committee
