The Lexington Section is very active and has no problems that would
require Region 3 attention.

March 11, 2010, technical meeting, discussion of Sudden Unintended
Acceleration problems in vehicles, 10 members, 3 guests.  Dinner at
Applebee's.

April 29, 2010 social meeting with University of Kentucky Student Branch,
reviewed 2009 robot camp, discussed 2010 robot camp plans, and watched
a movie (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).  Pizza.

May 20, 2010 technical meeting about Sustainability, presented by
Mark Henson with Rockwell Automation, 15 members, no guests.  Dinner at
Portofino's.

June 17, 2010 technical meeting, Robot Camp Training, joint meeting with
ITT and UK student Branches, hands-on training with Lego NXT robot kits,
22 members, 2 guests.  Pizza

July 8, 2010 EXCOM meeting with UK Student Branch, 10 members, no
guests.  Pizza.

August 12, 2010 technical tour of Tom Lowery's residential solar photovoltaic
system, 7 members, 1 guest.  Dinner at Hall's on the River.

August 26, 2010 social meeting, cookout for UK engineering students,
and battlebot contests by 5th-grade robot camp participants.

September 2, 2010 EXCOM meeting, 8 members.  Pizza.

September 30, 2010 technical meeting about Lead-Free Electronics,
presented by John Barnes, PE, oener of dBi, Inc., and High-Voltage
Terminations and Conductive Raised Floors, presented by Wendell Snyder,
PE with Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass.  Pizza.  Hosted by East kentucky Power
Cooperative.

October 23, 2010 professional development meeting, webcast of the
IEEE-USA Career Management Seminar, 3 members, 1 guest.  Sandwiches.
Hosted by ITT Technical Institute.

November 11, 2010 technical tour of Lexmark's EMC Lab, with presentations
by John Fessler and Dr. Keith Hardin of Lexmark about how EMC testing helps
Lexmark sell products globally, 9 members, no guests.  Pizza.

December 9, 2010 technical meeting, presentation by Gill Holland, Jr, JD
about building energy-efficient "green" commercial buildings for
LEED certification.  Joint meeting hosted by the Louisville Section
at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville.  22 members (11 from the Lexington
Section), 9 guests (5 from the Lexington Section).


2011 meetings so far:

January 27, 2011 tour of Duke's Envision Center, and presentation
about Smart Grid by Bill Peak with KEMA, 17 members, no guests.  Dinner
at Famous Dave’s Barbeque.

February 17, 2011 technical meeting, UK Student Paper and UK SEC11
T-Shirt Logo presentation, 11 members, no guests.  Lee's Famous Recipe
chicken dinner.

February 26, 2011: staffed an IEEE display at UK for Engineers' Day,
5 member volunteers, 1 guest volunteer.

Planned meeting: March 22, 2011 technical meeting, tour of Square D's
circuit breaker panel factory, folowed by dinner at Giuseppe's Ristorante.


Notable accomplishments:

Jack McKinney provided leadership and recruited Lexington Section
volunteers and other volunteers for a week-long morning robotics
summer camp for 5th-grade students.  Jack also submitted a request
for a Lexington Section Fund through the IEEE Foundation to expand
this program and other K-12 programs promoting engineering.  Jack
also taught high-school students about mapping and computer-assisted
3-D architectural modeling.

Rachel Wilson recruited ITT Technical Students and established a
new student branch.

Adam Case Ward circulated a petition and started the Lexington Power
and Energy Society.

Wendell Snyder is circulating a petition to start the Lexington
Industrial Applications Society.
