Successes/Opportunities for Engaging the member, volunteer, non-member, public: - The Melbourne Section continued its popular career development series throughout this year and held an extremely successful workshop in conjunction with the Orlando and Canaveral Sections, Region 3, and the IEEE-USA Career and Workforce Policy Committee called ‘Career Survival for Engineers and Scientists. A series of follow-on Career Development meetings is planned for 2011. The first meeting, discussing Interviewing, was held in Feb. - The Melbourne Section partnered with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Florida Institute of Technology to hold joint lectures. Lecturers included IEEE local speakers and distinguished lecturers, Florida Tech professors, and other lecturers provided by Florida Tech. This joint partnership provided both Florida Tech and the Melbourne section with a significantly wider cross section of both speakers and attendees than either group typically enjoyed in the past. Attendees included students, faculty members, IEEE members and interested professionals from the local community. Notable section activities: - The Melbourne Section has partnered with the Brevard county public school system to support a statewide initiative to develop an engineering aptitude test that is being lead by our county. The Melbourne Section is interested in finding the appropriate IEEE National personnel who could endorse this test for IEEE. - The Melbourne Section continued its annual support of the Brevard County School Science Fairs by providing judging and awarding prizes.
