To: Region 3 ExCom Fr: David G. Green, Region 3 Director-Elect Sb: Director-Elect's Report for May ExCom Dt: 9 May 2011 Thanks to everyone for a very enjoyable and productive Region 3 Meeting in Nashville. We obviously had a lot to do, got a lot done, and left some for later. Perhaps we can better use our e-conferencing tools to do some of the left over activities as well as remain engaged between meetings. Another report summarizes the work post meeting on the Region 3 Sections Congress Recommendations. I believe they are ready to go and will be sent in after the ExCom meeting. Any last minute comments can be made on the Region 3 OnLine Community. I attended the Minneapolis Section's "Guerrilla Job Search Secrets Revealed" section meeting on 18 April. They broadcast the Section meeting as a webinar to up to 50 outside attendees. Some were probably section members that could not attend and some were "outsiders" like me. It was a good meeting, after understanding when it started (we had a rather silent video view of the lectern as folks checked it out and the participants ate dinner ). We were able to ask questions via text and have them answered by the speaker. I think it is precisely in keeping with our Sections Congress Recommendation 4 which includes the "members without borders" concept. I would like to visit other areas and councils and participate in meetings where appropriate. Please touch base with me and lets see what can be scheduled and how I can continue to learn and help IEEE in Region 3. Goals for 2011: * Work on a planning effort for Region 3 to encompass Sections Congress, MGA, Region 3 and its sections (in progress) * Visit at least four Area/Councils (invitations?) * Actively participate on Region 3 Committee, the ExCom, and Region 3Committees as appropriate and required (continuing) * In support of and in coordination with Director Stogner and the 2011 Region 3 Goals and Objectives, enable and encourage Region 3 committees to be effective in fulfilling their charter. (in progress) As an action report for 2011 since my last report, I have * Participated in online final crafting of the Region 3 Recommendations * Prepared the Region 3 Submissions using the MGA format adding in the other meta information requested. * Prepared Newsletter article on the Region 3 Sections Congress Recommendations * Participated on MGA vTools Committee * Participated on MGA Strategic Direction and Environmental Assessment Committee * Participated in the MGA Metropolitan Workshop Meetings * Participated in several activities associated with being a Past Secretary, Past Treasurer, and member of several IEEE Committees
