IEEE Region 3 Government Relations Council Report (aka IEEE-USA Policy Committees Liaison) The IEEE-USA Government Relations Council includes committees and individuals concerned with shaping government policy. Its web page is found at https://ieeeusa.org/volunteers/committees/grc/default.asp Region 3 encourages sections to have corresponding members for these committees. There are teleconference facilities for remote attendance at committee meetings, which may occur four or six times per year, usually for a half-day. Corresponding committee members serve as two-way conduits passing information of interest back to the region and making IEEE-USA aware of key region concerns. A recent example was the Patent Reform Act, last year. Region 3 has representatives on some but not all of these committees. Anyone interested in working with a policy committee is encouraged to contact George McClure, to arrange the link-up. There is no cost, other than the time the volunteer wishes to devote to the activity. The Government Relations Council is composed of the Vice President, Government Relations, who acts as chair, a Vice Chair, the appointed chairs of the chartered IEEE-USA government relations committees (Career & Workforce Policy, Communications Policy, Critical Infrastructure Policy, Energy Policy, Government Fellows, Intellectual Property, PACE Gov't Activities, R&D Policy, Medical Technology Policy, Transportation and Aerospace Policy), and two members-at-large appointed for their expertise in government relations.
