IEEE SoutheastCon 2012 Conference Report January 23, 2012 Papers submitted before the deadline totaled 197. Of those, 179 submitted full papers; the rest submitted abstracts. Dr. Kalpathy is coordinating the reviews, using some reviewers from the previous two years in addition to new qualified volunteer reviewers. The deadline for author notification is January 31, with “camera-ready” papers due by February 13. At that time, the number and title of conference tracks will be determined, as well as space requirements for non-concurrent tutorials and workshops. Dr. Yang is chair for the tutorial/workshop program. Some papers will be presented in poster sessions, but all will be included in the conference record in Xplore. One half-day workshop session has been requested by IEEE-USA; the conference is open to tutorial proposals from prospective presenters. Solicitations of donors, benefactors, and exhibitors continues. A major donor may earn a place as the banquet speaker. The keynote speaker has not yet been selected. Benefactors are being sought to underwrite student meals and conference coffee breaks. The conference web site has been established for some months. Recent additions include hotel reservation information, student competition requirements, and prize money for student events. https://www.southeastcon2012.org/ Details on the student program have been worked out; guidelines for competitions are posted at the conference web site. Space requirements for the student program are being refined. The vendor has been selected for preparation and printing of the conference program. The same vendor will produce the CD-ROM version of the conference record. Some final financial details are being pinned down by the conference treasurer, Stan Buchanan, so the conference budget can be approved by IEEE Hq. IEEE has confirmed that insurance for the conference (March 15-18) will be provided. The IEEE Florida Sales Tax Exemption Certificate has been provided to the hotel. As in years past, IEEE Member Discounts (formerly Financial Advantage) will be providing prize money for the top three events. Information about these prizes will be posted at the web site. A meeting of the Region 3 Conference Committee was held at the conference hotel on December 3. A Readiness Review, called by Sean Haynes, will be scheduled by the Region 3 Conference Committee in Orlando, likely in late February.
