There are no Issues requiring action by the Region 3 Committee or ExCom at this time. Member Engagement Activities: In February 2012, the Savannah Section participated in a Technology During the Civil War fundraiser to support our local High School science fair teams. The presentation and discussion focused on technological innovations during the American Civil War. Included were: telecommunications, photojournalism, aerial observation, submarines, steam and iron-clad ships, railroads, rapid-fire weapons, and rifled artillery. The event was hosted by the Coastal Discovery Museum at the beautiful and historic Honey Horn Plantation on Hilton Head Island, SC. Section Activities: We also recently participated in the 2012 Savannah E-Week Technical Training Conference. The conference provides technical training for civil, structural, geotechnical, water resources, environmental, electrical, and mechanical engineers, architects, and engineering support professionals. Professional sponsors included the IEEE Savannah Section, Society of American Military Engineers Savannah Post, Georgia Tech Savannah, American Society of Civil Engineers Savannah Branch, and the American Council of Engineering Companies. Professional Development Hour (PDH) certificates were offered during this conference, which was held this year at the Armstrong Center in Savannah, GA. Please go to www.savannaheweek.org for details. Barriers: Although we have a core group of members that keep the Section running, and local members engaged, it has become difficult to find new volunteers for section leadership. A coordinated effort is in progress to locate and develop volunteers in our area and we look forward to another year of engaging our fellow IEEE members and advancing technology in the Savannah area.
