To: Region 3 ExCom CC: Region 3 Section Chairs Dt: 23 April 2012 Director's Report for April 2012 ================================ It was with great sadness that I reported the passing of our friend and long-time volunteer George McClure. George had just finished his efforts in the successful SoutheastCon 2012 and had helped us improve our IEEE-USA/PACE organization/status. There have been several remembrances of George sent to the ExCom and section leadership and I know we will benefit for years to come from his efforts as well as his status as a role model. I have appointed John Montague to assume the duties of Professional Activities Operations Chair as well as to be the IEEE-USA PACE representative. John will perform these duties in addition to his work as the internal R3 PACE Chair. I thank John for his willingness to assume this extra responsibility for us. Congratulations and thanks to Donghui Wu and his SoutheastCon 2012 team for an excellent conference in Orlando. I think we had a good meeting and everything went well from the participants point of view. We had an exciting Awards Dinner that everyone wanted to attend. Thanks also to the R3 gang (Sean Haynes, Regina Hannemann, Josh Shank, Don Hill, Gregg Vaughn, and everyone else who worked by the scenes to make this a productive and great event. Well done, all! The IEEE-USA Annual Meeting is being held in Cincinnati on 4-5 May 2012. John Montague has done an excellent job overseeing the allocation of the PACE funds for supporting Section PACE Chairs to attend the meeting. In addition to these attendees, Region 3 has a number of members associated with the program in one way or another: * Jim Howard, IEEE-USA President 2012 * Mary Ellen Randall, Track Chair for the meting * Jim Anderson, Keynote Speaker * Ed Kirschner, Committee Chair and speaker * Don Hill, speaker * Ron Ogan, speaker * David Green, R3 Director, speaker We will have a Region 3 dinner on Friday night so if you are attending, please consider yourself invited to the dinner. Follow-ups ---------- 1. Our secretary Gregg Vaughn has posted the slides from the Region 3 meeting to the web site. If something is missing, let us know. 2. We only have about 1/2 the BIOs from ExCom members so please take a minute and complete yours so that we can achieve full participation. 3. Thanks to Gregg for capturing action items as part of the minutes. We will continue our practice of reviewing them and rolling forward the ones not yet completed. 4. Please review websites. We still have old content and a few bad links. Our webmaster will help you with the technical side of things but you are the content expert. Area/Council Chairs -- please review your sections' sites and offer to help. There is a vTools WebInABox tool for those who want a very low maintenance basic web site. 5. Our Newsletter Editor Bill Labelle has issued a call for articles for the next newsletter. The audience is the region's volunteers and the focus is on sharing engagement successes. Please consider writing an article as well as proactively seeking articles from your section(s).
