Region 3 Director-Elect Report By Mary Ellen Randall Recently, I participated in the IEEE-USA Annual Meeting from May 3-6 in Cincinnati. This included the IEEE-USA Board Meeting. It also included technical and PACE presentations. I served as Track Chair for the “Resources Track.” One of the challenges in IEEE is to find what you need when you need it. This meeting is one tool to assist your section to do just that. Please consider the tools made available there for your Member Engagement activities. The IEEE-USA Annual Awards Banquet was also held at this meeting. As Awards & Recognition Committee Chair, it was my honor to introduce the banquet and welcome everyone. Additionally, I participated in the Awards Planning and Policy Committee meeting. There are many situations that come up surrounding awards. This committee puts the policies in place to ensure our program is fair and open to all to participate in. A Member Engagement workshop was held in conjunction with the Orlando Region meeting. The information from the 3 Break out sessions can be found at on the Region website Professional Growth Public Imperative Technical Growth A follow-up letter was sent to all participants in the Orlando workshop and to all Section Chairs in the regions. We will be highlighting a section and asking them to describe a successful member engagement activity they held recently to help facilitate ideas for us all. Member Engagement: The Central NC Section held a dinner meeting honoring long time volunteer Lonnie Baxler, Jr. on May 23, 2012. Lonnie has been involved in STEM educational activities many years and has cultivated relationships with industry and with several educational endeavors. IEEE members (including some who do not regularly attend meetings), industry representatives and educators also attended. A Scholarship fund was started in Lonnie’s name. Please consider if a similar event may benefit your section and members. https://ewh.ieee.org/r3/cnc/ Respectfully submitted, Mary Ellen Randall, IEEE Director-Elect 2012-2013, merandall@ieee.org
