Response from SAC Chair to the Report by the Special Review Committee about Region 3 SAC 20 August 2012 Overall I am very happy with the report you gave. It shows most of the deficiencies our regions has with concerns to students. We have started to address a lot of these tasks over the past year already and we are making some (slow) progress. We are working diligently on all of these topics making the direct student contact our foremost goal. One result of this has been an increase in reimbursements of student travel for SoutheastCon (and unfortunately therefore an overspending of our budget). We have set up a reimbursement process via a google spreadsheet. Which seemed to work out ok. We will further fine tune this approach. We have started the work on the student conference manual, only this work has always been delayed by more burning issues in direct contact with the students. We will rethink our strategy here and maybe try to get in more help on this topic. Which leads to our approach of building a bigger SAC committee to ensure better "local" work. We have due some outreach and found people willing to help, unfortunately due to current work loads of the core team (RSAC, RSR, and Vice Chair of SAC committee, who is the current regional SPAC chair), led to not enough follow up. With the current plan of re-initiating fall leadership training we hope to get enough energy worked up within the group and with the students to get the committee work going. Finally, we have started a Facebook page for R3 students and a ramping up the use of it, therefore hopefully we are able to ensure better communications with the branches in the region. We will add the goal of reaching out to the students for more articles in the student news (actually right now as an associate editor for Potentials I got a similar request for articles from the region in Potentials, so I can hopefully create a new trend on reporting from the branches). I hope this answers all your questions, if not please send me an email and i hope to be able to answer in a more timely manner. Thanks to the committee for providing all the input.
