Western North Carolina Section Report to Region 3

. Membership Development: MD Chair Jim Corr has been busy all year
recruiting senior member applicants.  We have had at least ten (haven't had
time to run SAMIEE for the latest numbers) senior member upgrades YTD.
. Student branches are off to a good start with enthusiastic leadership. All
three student branches attended the training in Charlotte and had good
things to say about it. Students are excited for the competitions at
SoutheastCon, especially the hardware contest.  Planning meetings are in
progress. So far, at least one team has registered for the IEEEXtreme
programming context. UNC-Asheville student branch held recruitment drive on
IEEE day.
. Have held monthly general membership meetings, except for September when
we had a social sponsored by our PES chapter. We have given ourselves a
mandate to broadcast as many meetings as possible over WebEx and to that
effort have obtained our own WebEx account. We have also been allowing Skype
dial in to EXCOM meetings to facilitate members who would otherwise have to
travel or who may not be able to attend because of work. (they miss the free
lunch though)
. We are exhibiting at a Boy Scout camporee  put on by Daniel Boone Council.
We are co-sponsoring a booth to promote Engineering programs at
UNC-Asheville and Western North Carolina.
. Elections: Elections committee has been formed and chair identified. Some
potential candidates have been identified.
