IEEE R3 Area 2 North Carolina Council Report for 19 Nov 2012

In 2012, North Carolina Council has been actively engaging the leadership and
members throughout North Carolina. Highlights of recent activities include:

1. NC Council elections for 2013 officers have concluded.
   The 2013 IEEE NC Council officers will be:
       Chair: Thomas Weldon
       Vice Chair: Dr. Rajeev Agrawal 
       Secretary: Dr. Valentina Cecchi 
       Treasurer: Kenneth Pigg

2. Special thanks to Jim Corr who organized the NC Council election 
    using the IEEE vTools.  Also, thanks to Eugene Khusid, IEEE Manager of
    Information Management, Member and Geographic Activities, for 
    helping NC Council set up vTools for our election.

3. On September 16, 2012 the NC Council had lunch with students and 
   counselors attending the fall student leadership training session at 
   UNC Charlotte that was organized by Regina Hannemann.  Also, thanks
   to Jim Conrad for helping organize local arrangements and facilities.
   Following lunch with the students, NC Council had a regular meeting
   at UNC Charlotte and discussed:
    - state-wide student medals/awards and member awards
    - increasing the number of IEEE conferences in the area

4. On June 25, 2012, NC Council had a teleconference and discussed:
   - ideas to join with technical conference to form a NC Council fall meeting
   - initiating state-wide student medals/awards and member awards
   - updates from our treasurer and all sections
   - updates/advertisement of state-wide activities on NC website

5. On March 16, 2012, 29 members attended the NC Council 
 meeting at SoutheastCon in Orlando, where lively discussion included:
   - updates on section activities across North Carolina
   - updates from student branches throughout the state
   - discussions of fall meeting options
   - discussions of NC Council budget items

In case other areas may be interested, we used the freeconference.com service
for a meeting, and this seemed to be an effective, simple, quick way to
teleconference, as long as everybody has free long-distance since the dial-in
was west coast.

Finally, I would like to thank our NC Council Officers, Grayson Randall,
Valentina Cecchi, and Jim Corr, and our Section Chairs Nate Quirk, Tom Jepsen,
Brian Kowald, Bill Williams, Ibraheem Kateeb, and our Area Student
Representative Forrest Suter, and all of our NC leadership and volunteers for
their generous contribution of their time, effort, and talent. I would also
like to welcome our new incoming officers, Dr. Rajeev Agrawal and Ken Pigg.
