IEEE Region 3 Automated Tools Chair Report I. Current Projects / Sections Engagement The Region 3 Automated Tools Committee is presently preparing sessions for the IEEE Region 3 Volunteer Sessions at IEEE SoutheastCon 2013. The sessions will include: 1. A Panel Session on the use of IEEE Tools at the IEEE local geographic unit level. 2. A breakout session offering demonstrations/training on IEEE vTools. 3. A breakout session offering demonstrations/training on SAMIEEE (Oracle Business Intelligence platform). If any volunteer or local geo unit has utilized any IEEE tool in one or may ways that would benefit other IEEE volunteers or local geo units, we would very much like your input in preparing for these sessions. Please contact the Region 3 Automated Tools Chair. See contact information on the ExCom composition Web page at https://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/comp.html II. Issues Needing ExCom Attention 1. Region 3 Operations Manual is still in need of revision regarding Communications Committees section, particularly the subsection on Automated Tools (referred to in the Ops Manual as Electronic Communication Systems Coordination). 2. Region 3 needs a designated (participating) Corresponding Member of the IEEE MGA vTools Committee. (The IEEE MGA vTools Committee reports to the IEEE MGA IT Coordination and Oversight Committee.) Each Region's Information Management Coordinator (IMC), as appointed by the region director, is a Corresponding Member of the IEEE MGA vTools Committee (as per the MGA Operations Manual. Region 3 has neither established a specific position entitled Information Management Coordinator nor reported a volunteer as holding this position in its officer reports. (It is believed by this volunteer that a similar position existed in the past entitled, "Electronic Communications Coordinator". Bill Clayton, a previous Region 3 ECC and Communications Committee Chair, is still listed in this position in both the official IEEE Geographic Roster and in the IEEE vTools.OfficerReporting database.) 3. Region 3 Automated Tools concur with Region 3 Director David Green's report for the January 2013 Region 3 ExCom Meeting that the Region 3 structure is not aligned with the IEEE MGA structure in the Information Management area and recommends that Region 3 consider reviewing its structure to better align with IEEE MGA in this area.
