IEEE Huntsville Section Report, April 2013 Since 2012, the Huntsville Section held a host of technical, professional, administrative and social meetings, including presentation from IEEE DLT program. Most Fun Recent Activity: We are currently in the process of defining on how we will be celebrating Section’s 60th Anniversary. Most Successful Recent Activity: FutureCity!! We continue to improve our yearly sponsorship of the FutureCity competitions. This year one of our area schools made it to the top 10 in the national competition in Washington DC. Member Engagement Activities: The Huntsville Section provides many opportunities for member engagement. We continue to support local STEM activities such as the regional and state science fairs, BEST Robotics, FIRST Robotics, STEDTRAIN, and others. We also are in the process of organizing a series of robotics training sessions using Arduino boards. Section Activities Focused Outward: As mentioned above, many of our member engagement activities are focused outward. We have continued to concentrate a vast amount of our efforts in the k-12 STEM activities. We have also continued to provide as many as technical sessions for the current membership. Our EMC society continues to provide regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year. And currently have plans for DLT presentations in April and May. We were also successful in combining our Controls and Robotic Societies into a Joint society and received $1000 seed money from Robotics Society for the Arduino boards for the training sessions. Barriers: Biggest barrier is identifying and recruiting volunteers and new blood. Issues Requiring Action by the Region 3 ExCom or Committee: No issues at this time. Eric Grigorian
