To: Region 3 ExCom Fr: Pat Donohoe, Region 3 Student Activities Chair Cc: Region 3 Committee Sb: Region 3 Student Activities Chair Report Dt: 9 September 2013 Over the summer, the Region 3 Student Activities Committee finalized plans to offer five Student Branch Leadership Training Workshops to be held during the Fall of 2013 throughout the Southeast. The purpose of the workshops is to provide student branch leaders with the tools necessary to develop and implement a successful branch plan for the upcoming school year. Student leaders and Branch Counselors should plan to attend a workshop in their area. Local Section leaders are also encouraged to attend, especially Section Student Activities Chairs. The dates and locations of the workshops are: Memphis, TN (September 7) Richmond, VA (September 21) Atlanta, GA (September 28) Ft. Lauderdale, FL (October 12) Columbia, SC (November 9) The Student Branch Leadership Training Workshop in Memphis was held on the campus of Christian Brothers University on September 7 with a total of 30 participants. Student Branch representatives from Christian Brothers University, the University of Memphis, the University of Alabama, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and members of the Memphis Section took part in the workshop. The Region 3 Student Activities Committee would like to thank John Ventura (CBU Student Branch Counselor) and Yuri Quintana (Memphis Section Chair) for their help in organizing the workshop. The Region 3 Student Activities Committee is also focused on planning for the Student Conference at SoutheastCon 2014. The student program will include the student paper competition, the student hardware competition, the student software competition, the student branch website competition, the student branch T-shirt competition, and the ethics competition. Changes in the judging procedure for the ethics competition are being finalized so that more student branches can participate in the competition at the conference. The goals of the Region 3 Student Activities Committee for the remainder of 2013 are to (1) conduct successful Student Branch Leadership Training Workshops and (2) to continue planning for the Student Conference at SoutheastCon 2014. ____________________________________________ J.
