Report to ExCom 9 December 2013

I had fully intended to attend the telecon tonight, but a conflict is now
going to keep me from attending. I apologize for that.

The award nominations have been trickling in slowly. We have several
nominations, but I'd really like to have more. We have a few nominations that
were started but have not been completed; there are also a few people that
mentioned to me that they are planning to submit nominations but they have not
yet started. I therefore extended the nomination deadline to December 20.

I hope that all of you will also consider submitting a nomination. Awards are
an important part of a volunteer organization -- volunteers feel a sense of
accomplishment and pride simply from being nominated, even if they don't win.
Submitting a nomination is not difficult, but it does usually require some
input from the nominee (dates of degrees, years in current position, etc.).
Please carefully consider the possibility of submitting a nomination.

To the Area/Council Chairs -- you are part of the review process for
nominations. Please be watching for emails from me about plans to review the
nominees. I'd like to present the list of selected awardees to the ExCom in
January for final approval, so we will need to make decisions fairly quickly.
