Happy New Year!

The N&A Committee has worked with Director Randall to staff the R3 ExCom as is
reported in the item on the Consent Agenda. With this fine team and Director
Randall's leadership, Region 3 should be set for great things.

Of course, having completed this cycle implies that the next one must begin.
The Region 3 Operations Manual calls for a general announcement seeking
nominations for Region 3 Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect for 2016-7 to serve as
Region 3 Delegate/Director 2018-9 as the first step in the new cycle. The
Region 3 Newsletter for Winter/Spring 2014 contains the announcement as well
as this report. After SoutheastCon 2014, the Region 3 N&A will begin its
work towards preparing a slate of candidates for the ExCom to consider and to
propose to the Region Committee. Tentative plans are for the ExCom to do its
work at a teleconference (in Excecutive Session) in time for the Region 3
Committee to consider the final slate for approval at its meeting in
conjunction with Sections Congress 2014.

Call for Nominations for Region 3 Director-Elect

Please help ensure that IEEE Region 3 continues to have strong leadership by
sending nominations or suggestions for future leaders to the Region 3 N&A
Committee. The immediate request is for the senior leadership position of
Region 3 Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect for 2016-2017. Please review the
requirements and expectations for an IEEE Director and consider nominating an
colleague or yourself.

The Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect serves two years as an "Elect" and as Vice
Chair of the Region, then serves two years as an IEEE Region Director (and
chair of the Region) and then two years as Past Director. It is a six year
commitment but is very rewarding and provides an opportunity to make
significant contributions to our region, profession, and IEEE. All past
directors speak favorably of the experience and have particular
accomplishments that have endured. Most remain involved in the Region for
years beyond their Director service although this is not a requirement.

Howard, Bill Harrison, Bill Ratcliff, Lee Stogner and David Green. The present
director is Mary Ellen Randall and the director-elect is Jim Conrad. Please
feel free to talk to any of these people if you have questions about the
position.

The general process for selecting the next Region 3 Director-Elect begins with
this call for nominations and culminates with a vote by the Region 3
Membership in August 2015. The process in between includes

Deliberation by Region 3 N&A (to begin April 2014)
Proposal of a slate to Region 3 ExCom (July 2014)
Approval of slate by Region 3 Committee at its meeting (August 2014)
IEEE Election Process including opportunity for petition candidates (begins February - March 2015)
IEEE Election (begins August 2015)
