To: Region 3 ExCom Fr: Gregg Vaughn, Region 3 Secretary Sb: Secretary's Report Dt: 6 July 2014 The Region 3 meeting information, agenda, and reports received are on-line at We will be meeting by way of WebEx. It would be helpful if the Committee members would submit reports prior to the meeting according to the guidelines posted on the web. These reports are posted to the web linked with the agenda. These written reports provide an important communication function for the region and also serve as the archival mechanism. There is a full roster of Region 3 on the private web site. SUMMARY OPTION for IEEE LISTSERV Individuals whose email addresses appear on an IEEE LISTSERV email list may select from three choices for the delivery of their email messages. These options for "Mail Style" are "Regular," "Digest," and "Index." DIGEST Normally, LISTSERV sends mailing list messages out to subscribers as soon as it receives them, so that the subscribers get messages throughout the day. Some may prefer to get all of the messages at the same time, combined into a single piece of email. Such a collection of messages is called a digest. INDEX An index, similar to the digest, is another option for receiving one message that summarizes a collection of messages from LISTSERV. LISTSERV sends the subscriber a list of what messages have been distributed to the mailing list recently, along with information about when the message was posted, how big it is, and who sent it. SELECTION As you recall, there is an email list for each Section. It is supposed to contain the addresses of the leaders of that section so that they will receive communications from the Region. The names on the list are specified by the Section and implemented by the Section or by the Region Secretary. The owner of a list is able to select "Regular," "Digest," or "Index" for each user individually. If your Section manages its own list, then you should be able to select the style of delivery that each person wants. If I manage your list, I will be happy to set the style to whatever you want as long as you tell me what it is. Since 1998, the Region 3 ExCom meeting announcements, agendas, and minutes have been posted to the web under the structure . Under this space is a directory yyyy-mm or yyyy-m1m2 (yyyy is year, mm is month, m1m2 is month 1 and month 2 if the meeting spanned the boundary between months). Thanks to everyone for the commitment you have made towards making IEEE a valuable member-driven organization! Gregg -- Gregg Vaughn g.vaughn [at] ieee.org IEEE Region 3 Secretary (2010-2014)
