Director-Elect Report October 16, 2017 (1) Jim Conrad and I attended the Florida Council meeting on October 14, 2017 in Orlando FL. We were invited to present our vision of a reduced number of Areas in Region 3. I explained that the major reason for needing fewer Areas was our shrinking budget. It has been reduced about 1% to 3% each year for the last several years. The reduction in budget tracks our reduction in members because the budget is funded by the assessment that each member pays. Region 3 has an assessment that is lower than many other Regions. We do not want to raise the assessment so, the only alternative is to reduce expenses. The major expense paid by Region 3 is travel for volunteers to attend meetings. (2) I have also started working with the Nominations and Appointments Committee on the Region Committee Chairs for 2018. We are seeking volunteers who are willing and able to serve in these roles. Since the Region adopted a new committee structure for the ExCom, we now have 10 committee chairs to identify. The volunteers who are identified by the Nominations and Appointments Committee for these positions will be invited to a Region 3 planning retreat to be held in December in Atlanta. (3) I greatly appreciate many of you who have served faithfully in a volunteer leadership position in Region 3 over the years. If you are willing to serve again or if you know of someone who is willing and able to serve on the ExCom of on one of the committees of the ExCom please send a messge to Mary Ellen Randall or David Green. Respectively submitted, Gregg Vaughn, IEEE Region 3 Director-Elect 2016-2017
