Region
5 Membership Development Activities
The Regional Membership
Development Committee coordinates membership development activities
within Region 5 and assists all Region entities to coordinate the
development of membership programs. The Committee strives to maintain a
healthy rate of growth of IEEE membership within Region 5, coordinates
the transfer of members in and out of the Region, and encourages
membership development to the highest attainable grade.

Robert
C. Shapiro, P.E., has an ASEET from
Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts in 1982, a
BSEE from Texas Tech University in 1984, a BSBA from the University of
Texas at Dallas in 1990, and an MBA with honors from the University of
Dallas in 1992.
He has held numerous wireless engineering and management positions
since 1984 and is currently employed as the Director of Land Mobile
Radio Engineering at Wireless Facilities, Inc.
Robert started his IEEE volunteer activities in
1996 with the Dallas
chapters of the IEEE Communications and VT societies, where he has
contributed as the Membership Chair, Treasurer, and Chair and is
currently the Senior Past Chair and was voted the IEEE Dallas Section
Engineer of the Year in 2003 as part of NSPE Engineer’s Week
Celebration.
In 2002 to 2005 he served as the IEEE
Communications Society DLT
Coordinator and as the North American Director for the IEEE
Communications Society and he is currently the Director of Marketing.
He also has served as the IEEE Dallas Section
Treasurer and
Administrative Chair and he is currently the Vice Chair. He is on the
IEEE VTS BOG and has served as the General Chair of VTC 2005 Fall
Dallas and is the current VTC 2007 Fall Baltimore General Chair.
Regional
Organization
The
Region 5 Membership Development (MD) Committee Chair also serves as the
Region 5 Member on the IEEE Membership Development Committee.
All
sections, sub-sections and student branches are requested to establish
an MD Coordinator, who will work with the Region 5 MD Chair on
furthering the goals and objectives for IEEE membership.
