R5 Teleconference Minutes

Present: Eason, Lillie, Zobrist, Dunn, Scolli, Meisel, Johnson, Lowry, Owens, Redfield,

             Grosz, Collier.

 

E-Conferencing:

            What to accomplish, how much to spend – need to determine cost.

            Full control – voice line/computer line needed.

            Partial control – preload power point / WORD presentation and voice line to

discuss.

Compare E-conferencing cost to meeting cost for budgeting purposes.

Next Teleconference call will try partial control.

Scolli – Information on R5 WEB page for speaker presentations (no replies as of yet)

             Lillie/Redfield will send Bio/Topic Abstract/Contact information to Scolli

             Scolli’s WEB page will have Speaker information for Sections to use.

Lillie- Nominate volunteers for higher position; all organizational units have nomination

committees; need to get this to local level; better job at advertising; links on R5

page to nominating committees; identify people and then seek positions; will 

circulate thoughts on this to R5.

Redfield – Developing list of high-ranking officials at companies; still working on this;

                  Redfield to contact Eason within a week to discuss this topic.

Meisel – Conference Committee meeting discussed; 2004 facilities excellent; small

   housing rooms main drawback (for students); excellent cafeteria.  2004/05     

   organizers are actively addressing conference details; Meisel will detail

   activities for Eason.

Grosz – ENTERGY to be nominated for Friends of IEEE Award (Grosz will follow-up);

  New Orleans Section bank account problem; changed banks; rebate check being

  held up; Grosz will send New Orleans ExComm note on this.

Johnson – 5 people sponsored to go to D.C. for Congressional Day; East/West areas,

     possible South area; Scolli (North Area) will check with PACE chair in

    St. Louis section for report; Whipkey (South Area) will check with Z. Taqvi for

    PACE report.

Lowry – Will invite people to Local Awards Banquet (Houston), needs list of people to

    invite.

Dunn – Houston has several continuing education activities starting in Fall.

Scolli – George Dean meeting still scheduled for August.

Eason – R5 ExComm meeting, October 3, 4, 2003; near Fayetteville, AR.

Eason – Next R5 Teleconference; August 8, 2003 (Friday); 8:00 am CDT.
