The Fictious University is seeking a Chair for its Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Department has baccalaureate degrees in Computer Systems Technologies and Information Systems Technologies. These programs serve approximately 250 undergraduate students. This is a unique opportunity for a person to lead electronic and information systems faculty with their varied research interests and backgrounds. This appointment begins when an acceptable applicant is found. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Qualifications: The position requires a completed doctorate, and the successful candidate should qualify for appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor. This individual also must provide evidence of quality teaching and service at the university level and a well-established research record reflective of the rank. Preferred Qualifications: Administrative and fiscal experience. Responsibilities: The College seeks an individual who will furnish leadership to a cohesive and productive faculty of 20 full-time and several part-time instructors in the department. The chair must be committed to (1) stimulating outstanding teaching, research, and service among faculty; (2) participating in discipline-related research and service; (3) serving as an effective liaison with the Dean's office and other academic units; and (4) fostering partnerships and goodwill within the professional community. Specifically, the chair will perform the following tasks: serve as chief administrative, fiscal, and academic officer of the Department; represent the Department and its program in the College as well as the University and the community at large; coordinate overall teaching, curriculum development, research and service programs to accommodate students, staff, and the interests of the College; coordinate off-campus academic programs; and engage in other assignments as determined by the Dean of the College. The College and the University: The College has 14 baccalaureate and four associate degree programs housed in seven academic departments serving approximately 1,000 students on campus and approximately 1,000 students off campus. The Fictitious University is located in scenic Rockless Mountains on the edge of the Edge Pass. The Fictitious University is a comprehensive university with schools of arts and crafts and has minimal support from the local government.
