Keynote Presentation at SCRO-CORS Annual Conference

Abstract: In science and technology, Canadian industry, governments and universites have established a good track record for productive relationsships. Using several existing collaborative approaches as concrete examples, Dr. Cary examines a number of variables, such as roles and responsibilities of participants, mangaement structure, methods of financing, treatment of IP, and measures of success, to illustrate how a variety of different but successful collaborations achieve their objectives.

Speaker's Biography: Dr. Carty took office as President of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in July 1994. Since then he has been promoting the vision of NRC as a leader in the development of an innovative, knowledge-based economy through science and technology. He is a chemist by training and his research interests are in synthetic chemistry, metal clusters, polynuclear activation of small molecules and new materials. Before coming to NRC Dr. Carty was Dean of Research at the University of Waterloo. He has also been CHairman of the Deapartment of Chemistry at that University and Professor of Chemistry at Waterloo and at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is or has been a member of the boards of many organizations. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
