Further Information

General

The Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering considers previously unpublished work not submitted elsewhere, in either English or French, by both Canadian and international authors.

The papers we publish are typically 3–10 pages long (in final form) and focus on original research in the field of electrical and computer engineering, current electrical and computer engineering practice, or the history of electrical and computer engineering relevant to the Canadian scene. We also consider brief descriptions of new technical achievements and application articles related to novel realizations or major system implementations.

All submissions are reviewed by independent referees as coordinated by the Associate Editors.   Top

Submission of Manuscripts

Your initial submission should be emailed as an attachment to one of the Co-Editors. We recommend that you submit your paper as a PDF file. If that isn’t possible, submit an MS Word file. Please don’t send us papers prepared with page-layout applications such as Adobe FrameMaker. If you can’t provide an electronic version of your paper, mail a hard copy instead.

Your initial submission should include the full text of your paper, along with the following:

• Name and contact information (including address, telephone number, and e-mail address) of the corresponding author

• All figures and tables with captions (these can be placed at the end of the paper; you don’t need to worry about layout)

• An abstract of up to 200 words

• A list of keywords (optional)

• A translation of the title and abstract into French or English as appropriate (if possible; otherwise we will arrange for translation)

Before your submission can be reviewed, you will also need to make a deposit of CDN$100. This deposit will be applied to your page charges if your paper is accepted for publication, and will be returned to you otherwise (see Page Charges (below).

For detailed instructions concerning CJECE style for headings, references, etc., see the CJECE Style Guide.   Top

Review Process and Acceptance

An Associate Editor will forward your submission to several independent referees for review. The reviewers will make a recommendation regarding acceptance. They may also request revisions prior to acceptance.

If your paper is accepted for publication, one of the Co-Editors will send you a formal letter of acceptance asking you to prepare and submit a final manuscript.   Top

Preparation of Final Manuscripts

Your final submission should consist of three parts: a PRODUCTION copy, ideally in LaTeX or Word format; a REFERENCE copy in PDF format; and individual files for each figure in EPS, PS or TIFF format.

CJECE staff will use the production copy to complete copy editing and to prepare the final layout. The reference copy is useful during the proofing process.

The figure files are required for the final layout. Line-art drawings should ideally have a resolution of 600 dots per inch. Grayscale images (such as photographs) should ideally have a resolution of 300 dots per inch. You may supply colour graphics if you wish, but they will be reproduced in black and white. Please don't put a frame around your figures (we will add one later), and please do not include the figure caption in your graphics file.

Tables will be set as text rather than being reproduced as figures. If necessary, CJECE staff will format the tables to conform to the CJECE style.

The CJECE follows IEEE style with some exceptions. For specific guidelines on style and format, see the CJECE Style Guide. You can also request a LaTeX template file by e-mail if you wish.

The final submission package should be emailed or mailed to

Page Charges

When your paper is published, you will be asked to pay a page charge of CDN$100 per page (to be sent to Dr. Vijay Sood with a copy to Dr. Bob Dony; addresses below) to help offset the publication costs.

To speed up the revision process, submitted papers are first quickly reviewed by the Co-Editors. At this stage, no deposit is necessary (see below). The decision of the Co-Editors is final and without appeal. If the submitted paper passes this first step, then the formal (more lengthy) revision process is started. At this point, a CDN$100 deposit is required (see below).

In order to prevent nonpaying authors from slowing down the review process, authors submitting their manuscripts to the CJECE are asked to make a deposit of CDN$100. The preferred means of payment is through postal money order. If the paper is rejected, the money will be returned to the authors. This postal money order will be cashed only if the paper is accepted; in this case it will be applied to the dues for the page charges. Without submission of this preliminary CDN$100, the manuscript will not be reviewed.   Top
