Industry Relations Subcommittee (IRSC)

Region 8 Coordinator for Industry Relations: Ghaleb Dandan (Saudi Arabia)

Supporting team member: João Figueiras (Portugal)

The IEEE Region 8 IRSC Plan of activities is derived from the analysis of the present situation of the R8 relations with Industry and the manifestation of specific needs of IEEE members from Industry in Region 8. It takes into account the results of the initiatives carried out in the framework of the action plans of previous years, by utilizing the lessons learned from the encountered problems and the successfully implemented processes.

The IRSC task is the establishment of lasting relations between IEEE R8 Sections, local and transnational industries. Activities will be carried out with the goal of establishing a wider collaboration environment and attracting more members from Industry. The average age of the IEEE members has been progressively increasing for the last years and it is likely the same for the members from industry. Extensive efforts have to be devoted to increasing the number of younger new members from industry. At the same time initiatives have to be undertaken involving and attracting expert industry members, since they often play a leading role in their organization and can contribute to the collaboration making.

IEEE Student Branches Industry Relations (ISBIR):

ISBIR is the first and the only large initiative proposed by student volunteers. It was approved in 2007 by IEEE Board of Directors with high-priority to bring industry, university and students together. It comprises of an extensive online career center with a huge database of CVs and job offers. It provides a catalogue / database of student organizations and events to choose from.

ISBIR Aims:

  • to make university-industry closer to each other

  • to bring the benefits of industry world into the IEEE world and vice versa

  • to combine all industry related actions of IEEE Student Branches in one program

  • to increase awareness and visibility of IEEE services & membership advantages within the industry

  • to utilize potential of IEEE volunteers in reaching to industry

  • to increase the awareness of industry relations within all IEEE regions

  • to establish a global network for sharing experience between IEEE volunteers

  • to guide and support IEEE volunteers in their industry related activities

  • to give the chance of presenting university students own projects and ideas to industry while they are studying
