Beirut Arab University, Lebanon

The IEEE student branch at BAU has been striving to reach the peak right from the beginning of the academic year.

Throughout the academic year, our SB has organized various activities, seminars, and lectures which attracted students more and more to join IEEE. Here is some of what we’ve been doing during the past few months:

  • Summer courses: during the summer, we have organized valuable training courses for a small fee. These courses covered the Microchip PIC and Linux.

  • Opening ceremony: it was a wonderful social activity during which we launched our activities for the year 2005/2006. The event was held at the Marriot Hotel and was attended by more than 70 members including students and professors.

  • Seminars: we have managed to arrange two seminars during the past months. In May 2005 Dr. MARDAN BEIK, executive manager of “KHATIB &ALAMI” gave an exciting presentation about joining “Arise” and its benefits. Our second seminar was given by DR. HOSSAM ELDIN MOSTAFA, assistant professor at the department of EE at BAU, who gave a presentation on “Neural Networks”.

  • Subcommittees: perhaps one of our greatest prides was our ability to lay the foundation to a number of subcommittees including: website, presentation, engineering day, public relations, and IEEE SB year book. More than 70 students have already joined these committees and are taking part in planning and organizing its activities. By the end of this academic year,

  • Exponential growth in membership: this growth has been led by an extraordinary increase in the number of members who have joined IEEE from all different majors in the university. The number of members at the beginning of the year 2005 has been around 90, but today the number is over 143 and rising.

During the past year, our primary concern has been promoting IEEE SB among students and communicating to them its valuable membership. We have strived to activate the SB and to invite every member to join its activities and be part of our family.
