IFISO Leadership Summer School

The Informal Forum of International Student Organisations (IFISO) is organizing a Leadership Summer School (LSS), to be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It will take place on July 16-25.

The Regional IEEE Students Engineers Contest

RISEC or Regional IEEE Students Engineers Contest is a newly established contest which is organized by IEEE – Egyptian Student Branches, aiming in developing students, increasing their awareness with market needs and professionalism which finally will make every team act as an entrepreneur, and dealing with real world's needs and its dynamic demand.

The Main Vision of this contest is to improve students’ capabilities and awareness in both technical and business aspects, involve students in current market dynamic demands and stimulate their creative thinking to solve those problems, and encourage them to be the new entrepreneur of the future.

As for RISEC's mission, is to provide competitions to students where they work in a team to solve a business problem or provide new solutions to the market, where their technical and soft skills are increased, as well as the students’ awareness to the market.

The RoboComp’2010 on its way

The RoboComp’2010 is a Robotics Competition organized by the IEEE Robotic and Automation Society (RAS) Tunisia Chapter, in order to bring together researchers and robotics specialists working on mobile robotics and biped robots.

This event will be held in Tunisia at the National School of Engineers of Sfax (ENIS) from 23 to 25 April 2010. The goal of this event is to evaluate contributions in robotics control for classical and widespread problems.

The competition contains the four Tracks below:

  • Innovation in robotics building
  • Wheeled robots for line follow
  • Wheeled robots for obstacle avoidance
  • Biped robots for a walking race

IEEE Job Site Hosts Virtual Career Fair

The IEEE Job Site is hosting a free Virtual Career Fair until 15 March featuring four employers: Argonne National Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, Rockwell Collins, and SRC. Visitors can search for jobs, apply for positions, and chat live with the employers online. Visitors to the virtual fair, cosponsored by IEEE-USA, can also register to attend career webinars that focus on the benefits of working at the sponsoring employers.

The Global Marathon, the big conversation about women in engineering

The Sixth annual Global Marathon For, By and About Women in Engineering – a live webcast and teleconference – will take place in Europe on Thursday March 11.

The Global Marathon is a free, 24 hour live webcast; Internet Chat and teleconference event themed ‘Launching Tomorrow’. It is managed by volunteer Chairs in each continent who arrange for four hours of live internet or telephone chat from their region as it follows the sun around the globe. Sessions will come from China; India; North America; South America; Africa and Europe/Middle East sponsored by companies such as Rockwell Collins; IBM; Motorola; BP; Verizon; DuPont and others but anyone anywhere can join any session to connect the world.

Topics included tips on heightening awareness of science, technology, engineering activities in schools and industry. Senior women in different sectors will discuss their achievements and challenges and examining issues such as retaining women in engineering programs and the workplace. The event will be hosted at the Big Bang Fair in Manchester which will be attended by 15000 schoolchildren; parents and teachers and will connect women everywhere.

Computer Society Half-Year Membership Dues for Students Offers a Big Benefit

Students now have access to a wealth of information at an incredible half-year membership rate.  For only US$20, students can join both IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society and enjoy free access to the Computer Society Digital Library (CSDL).  Current IEEE Students can add Computer Society and get access to CSDL for US$7.  In addition to CSDL, Computer Society student members have free access to Microsoft development software, access to 600 online technical books, and access to 3,000 online technical and business courses.

IEEE-Microsoft Collaboration

Microsoft and IEEE announced a collaboration to empower students to reach their professional aspirations.  The goal of the Microsoft-IEEE collaboration is to increase the number of students engaged in technical pursuits with the long-term benefit of strengthening business and society through the use of technology. The collaboration will include five focus areas:

  • Competitions Microsoft
  • Software Access
  • Internships
  • Continuing Education

This collaboration between the two organizations will equip IEEE members with access to Microsoft student programs and technology and expose the benefits of IEEE membership more broadly to science, technology, and engineering students who are currently using Microsoft software and solutions. For detailed information, you can read the announcement at IEEE's website.

Participate in the Campus Party Europe!

The Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation presents Campus Party Europe, a special edition of what is considered to be the biggest event for technology, creativity and digital culture online in the world, to be held during the Spanish Presidency of the European Union in Madrid, 14th-18th April 2010.

 

For four days, 800 young people from each of the 27 member states of the EU will participate in activities such as conferences, workshops nd challenges centered around three knowledge areas: Science, Digital Creativity and Innovation.
