Eva Lang - Chair

Eva works at the Institute for Software Systems in Technical Applications of Computer Science at the University of Passau, Germany.  Besides the project work she pursues her PhD degree in Computer Science, focusing on Image Processing and Texture Analysis. She was 2008 Region 8 GOLD Chair and has been involved with Student and GOLD activities since 2004. As the Student Activities Chair, she coordinates the team in their continuing effort to add an extra value in IEEE membership for students in Region 8. 

 

Martin Bastiaans - Past Chair

Martin is a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has been a member of the Region 8 Student Activities Committee since 1999, where his main task was the coordination of the annual Region 8 Student Paper Contest. As the Past Chair, he supports all the former ongoing activities and serves as a transition to newer projects. 

 

Pablo Herrero - Student Representative

Pablito is from Spain but currently he lives in Germany pursuing a PhD in mm-waves antennas and circuits at TU-Braunschweig and studiying Physics. Pablito's role is to enhance the dialogue between all Region 8 students and the Committee, both for proposing new projects and for making members aware of the possibilities their membership gives them. He was the 2006 Larry K. Wilson Award Winner.

 

Saurabh Sinha - Counsellor Program Coordinator

Saurabh is a Senior Lecturer at the Dept. of Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering, Univ. of Pretoria, South Africa. His research speciality is in Microelectronics. In his IEEE life, he serves as the IEEE South Africa Section Chair and also serves as the Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) liaison to the Educational Activities Board (EAB). For the IEEE Region 8 Student Activities Committee (SAC), Saurabh aims to renew and continuously rejuvenate IEEE Student Branch Counsellors, for a long term outcome of strengthened and sustained co-operation between Faculties, IEEE Student Members and their Student Branches. Djordje (George) Paunović - Student Paper Contest Coordinator

George is Professor emeritus in Telecommunications at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade. His main scientific results are in the fields of radio channel modelling and electric field strength prediction and he has been leading chartered project engineer in several dozens of major projects. He has been an IEEE member for 25 years and has been involved as an IEEE volunteer at several positions including Yugoslavia Section Chair, IEEE Serbia&Montenegro Com Chapter Chair, Chair of the Telecommunications Forum TELFOR and IEEE R8 Vice Chair Technical Activities (2007,2008). Within our team he is in charge of the Student Paper Contest.

 

Amélie Anglade - Student Branch Coordinator

Amélie is a French PhD student in Music Information Retrieval at Queen Mary University of London, UK. She was part of the organising team of the Region 8 Student Branch and GOLD Congress (SBC) 2008 and is now Chair of the Queen Mary University of London IEEE Student Branch. Her role as Student Branch Coordinator is to deepen and widen the links between the Student Branches in Region 8 as well as their connection with the Region 8 SAC.

 

Yasemin Baser - Awards And Contests Coordinator

Yasemin is an MS student at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey. Her research focuses on network coding for video streaming over the Internet. She has been actively involved in IEEE since 2005 as Bilkent University IEEE Student Branch Chair and later on ISBIR Program Assistant Director. As the Awards and Contests Coordinator, her job is to advance the interest of IEEE student members by recognizing their contributions to the IEEE fields of interest and the benefit of the society. She is responsible of the coordination of major awards and contests at the regional level as well as promoting the organization of contests at the more local level.
