Techical Visit to the principal Photo voltaic plant in the Puerto Rico Convention Centerby Luis A. Tatis Morales
The Puerto Rico and Caribbean Section had a technical visit in conjunction with local chapter of Professional Electrical Engineers of CIAPR to a Solar photo voltaic Plant.
Gestamp Solar, solar photo-voltaic division of Ge stamp Renewable, inaugurated on Friday 27 December of 2014 a photo-voltaic plant in the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
This facility has a capacity of 5 megawatts (MW) and is composed of more than 17,000 installed solar panels on parking spaces on both sides of the convention center, while another 2,000 are located on the roof of the center itself.
Gestamp Solar has invested over 20 million, creating 125 jobs during the eight months of construction and creating 25 permanent jobs for maintenance.
This plant will produce about 8,000 megawatts / hour (MW / h) solar energy each year, reducing the emission into the atmosphere of more than 5,000 tons of C02, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 725 households.
