Seminar on Demand Side Management in Smart Grid Perspectives
by Ahmed Hosne Zenan
In collaboration with Control Application and Research Group (CARG), IEEE Student Branch 2012 successfully organized its very first Seminar of its working year on 27th June, Wednesday at 3:30 pm. The seminar commenced with the prize giving ceremony of the online photo contest where the three winning photographs were awarded prize money by the department head Dr. Sayeed Salaam followed by a brief description of the photos by Dr. AKM Azad, Associate Professor, EEE Department. After prize distribution, Dr. S Shahnawaz Ahmed, Research Professor of the department of electrical and electronics engineering, gave a 60 min presentation on demand side management (DSM) in smart grid perspectives. His articulate presentation covered the various objectives and benefits of DSM, its relation with energy efficiency, demand response and smart grid, the various tariff and technology based programs for DSM and few comments on payback time. His discussion also included suitable DSM programs for developing countries like Bangladesh. Finally it was concluded that although a complete smart grid system could not be yet achieved, the evolution from the current status of smart grid to the final target should be steady. The seminar ended with a question and answer session and refreshments for all.
