The Inaugural Session of the IEEE BRAC University Student Branch was held on the 6th of July 2008 at the Indoor Games room of BRAC University. The student branch was officially inaugurated amidst rounds of applause when Professor Saifur Rahman, Chief Guest of the event, launched the student branch website (http://ieee.bracu.ac.bd). Prof. Rahman is the Director of the Advanced Research Institute at Virginia Tech and is also the former Vice President of the IEEE Publications Board. The Special Guest on the occasion was Professor Aynal Haque from BUET who is currently the Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section. Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, the Vice Chancellor of BRAC University was also present in the event.

In January 2010 the new Executive Body started operating with Shiblee Imtiaz Hasan as the Chairperson, Md. Eftakhairul Islam as the Vice Chairperson, SK. Adnan Rabbi as the Secretary and Adnan Al Moshi as the Treasurer. The student branch currently has more than 35 active members.

The branch has been organizing various events from then on including technical workshops, lectures, tours, documentary shows etc. Three of the branch EB members also participated in the 125th anniversary IEEE Student Congress 2009 in Singapore and brought the “Most Vibrant Student Section Award” for Bangladesh. Exclusive events organized by this branch includes: Lecture by IEEE Foundation President & IBM's Director (Research) in August 2009, IEEE 125th Anniversary Workshop on Electronics and Communication in June 2009, IEEE Seminar on “Semiconductor Trends for RF Wireless” by Dr. Razak Hossain in July 2009 and Nanotech Lecture - “A Gentle Introduction to Nanotechnology” by Dr. Mumit Khan in April 2009.
