Founded in 1884, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a worldwide technical professional society devoted to advancing the theory and application of electrical engineering, electronics and computing. The IEEE serves almost 315,000 electrical engineers, scientists and other professionals in approximately 150 countries. It is the world's largest technical professional society.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers promotes the development of electrotechnology and allied sciences, the application of those technologies for the benefit of humanity, the advancement of the profession, and the well-being of its members.

Access Information from the World's Largest Technical Publisher

The IEEE is widely recognized as the world's leading publisher of literature in electrical engineering and computer science. Our high-quality information products include magazines, journals, books, conference records, CD-ROM, and other electronic media publications. All members receive Spectrum, the IEEE's award-winning magazine. The Institute, our monthly newsletter, keeps you up on events in and around the IEEE. Student members in the U.S. and Canada also receive the award winning Potentials, the quarterly magazine for up-and-coming engineers. Potentials profiles technological and career trends, as well as subjects important for working successfully in industry. While Potentials is included with U.S. and Canadian student membership, it is optional for all other IEEE Student members.

Join an IEEE Technical Society

The IEEE currently has 37 technical Societies and Councils, each devoted to a specific technical area. As the IEEE serves the breadth of common interests among electrical engineers, our technical Societies serve the depths of members' special interests. Almost two-thirds of IEEE members belong to at least one Society and you can join at reduced Student member rates
