2009 – 2010 IEEE Officer Nominees
Running for the position of:
Chair
Martin Guirguis
“I would like to start my introduction
with a quote by John F. Kennedy. “…ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you
can do for your country.” This quote has been used in
several occasions, I believe this is the perfect occasion to ask yourselves,
ask not what your IEEE organization can do for you- ask what you can do for
IEEE!
And now without any further ado let me introduce myself, my name is Martin
Guirguis. I am an Electrical Engineering student. I would like to talk about my
experiences that qualify me to run for the Chairman position. In the past
two years I was the IEEE NATCAR team lead, and both years were successful. I
had a great experience owning and operating my own security surveillance
company. Currently I am interning for the Boeing Research & Technology
Center. I believe that the aforementioned experiences have prepared me to
improve IEEE in the upcoming year. Some of my own goals and vision for IEEE
are, to increase membership and awareness of IEEE. I also want to increase the
support from Faculty and IEEE department, to create a strong Student and
Faculty relation. And finally I want to expose our students to the professional
world of engineering. To close, I would like to thank you for participating in
the improvement of the CSULB IEEE Chapter and the elections.”
Sandra
Hernandez
“MONEY
MONEY! I hope that got
your attention! Hi Everyone, My name
is Sandra, and I would like to be your next IEEE Chapter Chair for the
year 09/10. I have been an active member for two years and am
currently Co-Vice-Chair. Apart from helping secure funds ($3.5K) from
our region section this year, I have personally been involved in the
planning of S-PAC, Kaleidoscope, Welcome Week, Student/Faculty Mixer,
GB Meetings, and Workshops. As Chair, I have exciting plans for the
upcoming year!!!!!!! I want to create a LEGACY for the most involved
group in the engineering department. I think that we have an
exceptional group of members whose interests have been neglected by
our department and my goal is to change that. I want to reach out to
members and create a nurturing family that will enable professional
growth and create friendships that will last us for a long time. As
plans go, I am personally talking to our
chair/dean to try to obtain
us a larger office where students can come and use equipment for their
class labs and projects. I want to reach out to more companies to
help us get funding, because lets face it, MONEY is what engineers
really WANT! I want to create technical workshops to reach out to all
our new incoming members. I believe this builds awareness and helps
create new leaders. I'm responsible, trustworthy, and I'm dedicated.
Please choose me as the next Chair, I'm looking
forward to working
with the next incoming officers. I want to make a difference!!!!
(and get us a lot more money).”
Vice-Chair
Dustin Sova
“I have been a member of IEEE for 2 years now, I joined the club my first semester here at CSULB. I have been involved in many of the events and activities that have taken place over the last two years and truly enjoy being involved. Currently, I hold the position of Food service engineer and am the main reason why the snack shack is still running. I have learned from this position and want to do more. I plan on performing all duties entrusted to me if elected to the greatest of my ability. I am very dedicated and feel I would make a great Vice Chair. My goals are to be involved in as many of the events and activities as I can. As for the IEEE, my goals are to continue the tradition of excellence put forth by previous boards.”
Secretary
Carol Asher
“I am currently a student at CSULB and I am an active member of IEEE and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). I have helped out with many of the Spring 2009 IEEE events, such as S-PAC and Kaleidoscope, and I have also been acting as the IEEE co-Secretary for the spring semester. I believe I would make a good Secretary for IEEE because I am dedicated to the position and I have acted as a secretary before, and I know how to perform the duties expected of me. With my previous experience and my involvement with IEEE, I believe I am the best person for the job.”
Treasurer
Daari Terrell
“Hello All, my
name is Daari Terrell. I am a senior Electrical Engineering major with a focus
in Power.
I am running for Treasurer, because over the course of this semester as
Co-Treasurer, I have learned much about
how this organization operates in terms of its budget. Using tools like Google
Docs, I have developed a system in
which we have a detailed list of what we by and how much we spend so that we
stay within budget, as well as
having documents that show we have something to account for when it comes time
for our Regional leaders to
reimburse the chapter for some of the events we hold. With my background I feel
I can maintain another successful
year for IEEE.”

“My reasons for
wanting this position are selfish ones. By hanging out with you guys and taking
charge of stocking the snack inventory, I hope to gain better direction in my
college career and life, friends, involvement with the school and my education,
and a better sense of responsibility.
I frequently buy stuff from the EAT office so I have some of my own ideas and
suggestions. I have a car, so I can purchase supplies.
My goal as IEEE's Food Service Engineer is the customer's happiness.”
Historian
Deedee Banh
“I would like to apply
for Historian Position and take picture of
events. I will make sure to attend all IEEE events, capture all IEEE
moments and update those pictures via webmaster.”

Hello Everyone!
We are nearing the end of the 2008 - 2009 school year
and it is time to elect a new generation of leaders for the IEEE! Our IEEE
student organization is one of the most active student organizations in the College
of Engineering. The officer positions provide excellent opportunities to
develop leadership skills, network with other students, student organizations,
and professionals, and take part in exciting and challenging activities.
To gain the most out of the experience, the positions require dedicated,
self-motivated individuals. Please consider your schedule when thinking about
running for a position as the positions require a significant amount of time to
be able to perform your duties well.
Beginning today, Thursday, April 23, 2009, we
will begin accepting nominations for the following positions:

to the College of Engineering. The AESB Representative attends the weekly
Associated Engineering Student Body Meetings held every Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the meetings, the AESB

discussed or voted on during the meetings.
6. EX-COM Representative - The EX-COM representative is the face of our
IEEE student branch to the IEEE section Executive Committee (EX-COM). The
EX-COM Rep. attends the monthly EX-COM meetings held on Monday evenings. The

are usually at the Northrop Grumman facilities in El Segundo, here at CSULB or
another local University campus.
7. Food Service Engineer - The Food Service Engineer is in charge of
stocking the snack inventory that the IEEE sells. The position requires
purchasing supplies and restocking when items run low.
8. Webmaster - The Webmaster is in charge of updating the organizations
website with current information regarding the branch activities and
announcements. The position also gives individuals the opportunity to practice
creativity in building our website to look good as well as function well.
