The UCT IEEE Student Branch

The UCT IEEE Student Branch is a subdivision of the IEEE local to UCT. It is made up of all student members of the IEEE that attend UCT. The branch was founded in 2005 and is one of four student branches in South Africa.

The UCT IEEE Student Branch held an election in October 2011 after the annual general meeting and the newly elected officers for 2011 are as below:

Luyolo Nqobile Magangane	Portfolio: Chairperson One of the craziest, passionate, humorous and strangest Chairpersons the IEEE-SAIEE Student Branch has ever seen. Affectionately known as Lu, he is very enthusiastic about community outreach, an efficient organization and knowing that members of the Branch are always having a good time and glad to be part of the IEEE-SAIEE family. Lu was born on 12 February 1988 in Johannesburg. He grew up in a small town just outside Johburg called Springs where he attended a very small private catholic school called Veritas College. In escaping the confines of small-town-living, Lu then made his way to Cape Town to pursue a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cape Town. An avid chess master, there’s nothing Lu likes more than when a plan comes together and so far all’s going according to plan- 2 more years in Cape Town, then back to Johburg with a Masters in Electrical Engineering degree. Likes: House (series), House (music), Hanging out by the beach, Poker Dislikes: Homework, Manchester United, Pickles, Lazy people Favourite phrase: Nostalgia is painted in Honey Interesting fact: Was part of an acapella quartet during teenage years.
