Overview of Common Admission Test(CAT): |
The CAT is primarily a pre-requisite to qualify for the IIMs, however in recent years, for the benefit of students, many other institutes in the country also accept the CAT as their qualifying test. It is one of the toughest exams in the world.
CAT tests you on two subjects English and Maths. These subjects are further subdivided into areas, viz Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Ability. The areas are clearly demarcated into sections. The number of sections and their composition varies from year to year. Therefore the pattern of the CAT is not certain.
The CAT is held once every year, on the last Sunday in November. To be eligible to take the CAT a student should either be in his last year of graduation, be a graduate or post-graduate in any discipline
CAT Scores: For years the CAT scores were kept secret and were avaialble only to the management institutes affiliated in the form of percentiles. From this year CAT will be allowing the students to get their scores by making them privy to the percentile scores. An individual score card will be sent to the students in the month of February.
What do they judge?
The purpose of CAT is to find out whether you have the necessary aptitude to undergo the courses you wish to study. The CAT is designed to measure your abilities and skills required to undergo training in IIMs successfully. These test also find out your general scholastic ability.
