The IEEE ENIT SB organized on the 29th of January 2009 a lecture titled UBUNTU & OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE.

It was presented by Rafik Ouerchfani, a medical biotechnology student. He is the first official tunisian UBUNTU member and second in the Arabic world. By now, he became the co-leader of UBUNTU Arabic Team and a contributor in many other open source software project.

UBUNTU is a community developed Linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications one needs from word processing and email applications, to web server software and programming tools. UBUNTU is free of charge, in fact there’s no need of paying any licensing fees.

UBUNTU is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The UBUNTU distribution brings the spirit of UBUNTU to the softwares world.

 

 

The lecture program : 

  • Presentation & Debate : A brief presentation about the open source software and the creation of UBUNTU was given, followed by the main advantages of UBUNTU for instance the stability, the simplicity, the security and especially the legality. The lecture ended up with a debate about the use of UBUNTU and Windows.
  • Install Party : Students and professors were invited to set up UBUNTU on their computers.
