In February 2009 the IEEE ENIT SB has started its robotics workshop activities by a “line tracking robot” as a first project.
The workshop was run by Abedelkarim Hamdi, Mouadh Chatti and Mehdi Kanzari. Several undergraduates SB members were invited to discover the world of robotics through the weekly workshops.
Goals were to design and to build a line tracking robot able to follow any path marked out on the ground. Documents required to elaborate the robot were distributed to members who joined the workshop. Required components made available through a local supplier.
Currently, the line tracking robot is able to drive itself along the track with varying speed. With its receiver and infrared diode, it can either follow a white line (the receiver sensor the light reflected by the infrared diode) or a black one depending on the microcontroller’s program. In additional, the robot may function without the sensors through a predefined trajectory program. Two engines were used, one to drive the right wheels and the other for the left ones. To turn right, the left engine is launched and vice versa to turn left. To stop, the current run in the engines is inversed.

The IEEE ENIT SB organized on the 29th of January 2009 a lecture titled UBUNTU & OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE. It was presented by Rafik Ouerchfani, a medical biotechnology student. He is the first official tunisian UBUNTU member and second in the Arabic world. By now, he became the co-leader of UBUNTU Arabic Team and a contributor in many other open source software project. UBUNTU is a community developed Linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications one needs from word processing and email applications, to web server software and programming tools. UBUNTU is free of charge, in fact there’s no need of paying any licensing fees. UBUNTU is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The UBUNTU distribution brings the spirit of UBUNTU to the softwares world. |
