Student Branch Launch & Career Seminar

7 June 2007

This event was held to introduce the IEEE QMUL Student Branch to researchers and familiarise them to the current industry trends and the difficulties they will have to face after completing their stint in academia. During this event, the Student Branch Chair, Martin Huang, introduced the IEEE and the Student Branch. The guest speaker was Mr Charles Gill from Lockheed-Martin, and he shared with us his experience while working there.

Martin spoke about the IEEE at length and the benefits of joining this organisation. He also announced the various events the Student Branch is planning to organise, namely the 2008 UKRI Student Congress, seminars and workshops.

Mr Gill gave a brief overview of the Lockheed-Martin Corporation and its operations in the UK. He described his experience of using his electrical engineering education during his career, both with Lockheed and the US Air Force. He also told of the things he has learned over the past 30 years that he wished he had known when he got his first degree.
