Ersin Bayram 3rd Place in the EMBS Student Paper Competition at the 23rd Annual International Conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) - Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) for his paper "Confidence Based Anisotropic Filtering of Magnetic Resonance Images." Ersin also received a conference travel grant and complimentary registration. Istanbul, Turkey.

Received a travel grant for the 2001 Engineering Education Scholars Workshop hosted by Howard University, Syracuse University, and University of New Hampshire. This NSF funded workshop is designed to broaden the preparation of advanced engineering graduate students and junior faculty for academic careers. The workshop was limited to 40 participants and payment of room, board and course materials was covered by the NSF grant. The workshop was held at the Xerox Document University in Leesburg, VA.
