PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE (Picture)

Colleagues:
We are almost half way through 1998. The 48th Elections Components and Technology Conference (ECTC) just recently held in Seattle, Washington was an outstanding success (>700 engineers). The technical presentations and guest speakers highlighted the significant changes occurring in the area of packaging processes, design and simulation. The number of attendees taking the short courses offered by CPMT prior to the ECTC also continues to grow (>360).
At the CPMT Board of Governors (BOG) meeting held prior to the 48th ECTC Dr. Rao Tummala outlined the changes being implemented in the Technical committee (TC) interest areas to better service the membership. The scope of interest on some existing TCs has been changed and interest areas in RF and wireless, MEMs’ and Sensor Packaging and Education have been added. At the BOG meeting it was also decided to implement several study efforts to develop a long term strategy to insure CPMT is (a) covering emerging technologies relevant to our membership, (b) serve and grow all CPMT related organizations and (c) identity sectors and non-members who could be served by becoming affiliated with CPMT.
Dr. Jim Morris V.P. Conferences has also begun the study of our conference structure and our cooperative efforts with other societies to insure the highest quality of conferences and workshops. I will be updating you on these and other issues in the future. --- John W. Stafford, President CPMT Society
