CPMT AWARDS MEMBERS
On behalf of the IEEE CPMT Awards Committee, I am pleased to announce that the following awardees have been chosen to receive the 1998 IEEE CPMT awards:
1. Outstanding Contributions Award:
"Dr. Koji Nihei" (Oki Electric Industry Co., Tokyo, Japan) for his enormous contributions to the CPMT Society over several years, through his participation in Tokyo Chapter, for his active involvement in the management of the IEMT conference in Japan, and for his support of CPMT presidents and Board of Governors activities.
2. Outstanding Sustained Technical Contributions Award:
"Prof. Kanji Otsuka" (Meisei University, Tokyo, Japan) for his pioneering work in MCM design and for his major contributions to the development of MCMs, utilization of silicone gels for corrosion protection, single chip packaging, plastic BGAs and molded packages.
3. Electronic Manufacturing Technology Award:
"Dr. Paul Totta" (IBM Corporation, Hopewell Junction, NY) for his major contributions in the development and management of IBM’s flip chip and interconnect technology for semiconductor devices and packages and for his sustained contributions to this important technology for the whole electronic industry.
4. Outstanding Young Engineer Award:
"Thomas Swirbel" (Motorola, Inc., Plantation, FL) for his extensive contributions in the areas such as thin film metal deposition, printed circuit boards, advanced components, and device and package technologies and for his leadership role in implementing new manufacturing processes within Motorola.
These awards will be presented at the 49th ECTC conference in San Diego next year, as preferred by the awardees.
