NEW IEEE FELLOWS

The Grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred only by invitation of the Board of Directors upon a person of outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in the IEEE designated fields, who has made important individual contributions to one or more of these fields.

The number of members who may be advanced to Fellow Grade in any one year is one-tenth percent of the total Institute membership, exclusive of Students and Associates, on record as of 31 December of the preceding year. For 1999 -- 239 new Fellows were elected.

At the Awards Luncheon at the ECTC in San Diego, we had the honor of presenting the Fellow Certificate to two of these new Fellows who are members of the CPMT Society:

Alina Deutsch, Fellow of the IEEE ALINA DEUTSCH
IBM T.J. Watson Research Center
Yorktown Heights, NY
"For contributions to the design of practical lossy transmission line structures for digital and communication applications."

Leonard Schaper, Fellow of the IEEE LEONARD W. SCHAPER
University of Arkansas

"For contributions to electronic packaging in multichip modules."
