Your Transactions on CD-ROM

The CPMT's Board of Governors has approved a project to place all of our earlier Transactions on a CD-ROM set, as part of our 50th anniversary celebration next year. It will gather all issues from the very beginning
through 1999 on six CD's, for quick and easy access to our Society's
complete archives. I have a special appeal to our long-time members -- see
the end of this column.
How useful could this be? Several other IEEE Societies have done this, to
great reviews. One user said, "This completely changed the way I do my
research!" We think you'll like it, too. The indexing is quite complete:
search by subject, by paper title, by "key word," and come up with any
abstract (and the paper's references) without ever swapping a CD. Click on
the author's name and see if they've aged since that picture appeared in the
issue. The references are hyperlinked, so you can quickly see the abstract
for a predecessor paper. See (in one place) a listing of all the papers
you've published in our various Transactions. And print out any archival
paper (in PDF format) on your local printer. And yes, the text of all the
papers is completely searchable!
Now, my appeal. I could use the help of some of the old-timers who have
fairly complete sets of our old journals. If you'll "loan" us the issues we
need (for scanning, etc), then we'll send you one of the first sets of
CD-ROMs, absolutely free! Please don't box up and send your old issues to
me -- yet. I want to find out what you have first.

So review this listing and let me know (email is best:
p.wesling@ieee.org) which years you have in these sequences:

1952-1956: (Does anyone recall any Volumes in this span?)
1957-65: Component Parts, Volumes 1-8
1965-68: Parts, Materials and Processing, Volumes 1-4
1969-77: Parts, Hybrids and Processing,. Volumes 5-14
1972-77: Manufacturing Technology, Volumes 1-6
1978-93: Components, Hybrids & Manufacturing Technology, Volumes 1-16

I'd appreciate the help of any of you out there who are collectors of
these old issues; maybe we can free up some of your shelf space, and give
you a nifty packet of CD-ROMs to replace those old journals!
