On Monday, 26 July 1999, a new IEEE/CPMT Chapter was inaugurated in Athens, Greece. In a half-day event held at the National University of Athens, Professor Uzunoglu was elected as the Chairman. More than 30 faculty, students and representatives of Greek microelectronics and telecommunication companies attended the event.
Professor Rao R. Tummala (IEEE/CPMT Technical Vice President and Georgia Tech Packaging Research Center Director) opened the inauguration with a brief description of IEEE/CPMT along with a practical paradigm of System-on-Package (SOP) performed at the Georgia Tech Packaging Research Center. Professor Emmanouil Tentzeris (Georgia Tech) presented practical aspects concerning RF/OE packaging in a global environment. An open discussion between the participants demonstrated the high interest in the area of packaging in Greece and future contributions of this new chapter to the IEEE/CPMT Society.
