Boston Chapter Events

The Boston IEEE-CPMT chapter had a very interesting internet-type meeting on February 8th with a local Concord New Hampshire company called www.netrocity.com. This firm provides three-dimensional maps of electronic assembly & components companies on the internet - click on the web page and see a new world of electronics information in a very unique format.

Our April 18th meeting will be on MEMS driven optical switch components by a recent start-up CoreTek Inc in Wilmington, MA. (www.coretekinc.com).

On May 9th we plan to have Intel’s assembly technology development group from Chandler, AZ do a presentation on "Flip Chip - Pin Grid Array Organic Package Design" at Intel in Hudson, MA. A similar presentation by Mirng-Jii Lii will be presented earlier in the day at a IMAPS all day local New England Symposium in Boxborough, MA.

To conclude our summer activities the Boston CPMT chapter will again sponsor a technical session at the ELECTRO 2000 Symposium (www.nepcon-east.com) during the Nepcon-East Trade Show on June 14th at the Bayside Exposition Center in Boston, MA. The focus of this year’s sessions will be on "optical packaging components" for the hot Optical Networking Market.

• Paul Polishuk, President of the IGI Group in Boston (www.igigroup.com) with a presentation on "An overview of the DWDM Optical Components Packaging Market".
• Scott Burroughs, VP Manufacturing of CoreTek in Wilmington, MA (www.coretekinc.com) will give a presentation on "Tuneable laser components (VCSELs) for fiberoptic telecommunications networks using MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical-system) technology.
  In the afternoon session:
• **Dr. Andre Sharon Director of the Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing Innovation and Professor of Manufacturing at Boston University (www.fraunhofer.org and bu.edu) will talk on "Cost Drivers and Automation Machinery used to make Fiber-Optic Component Systems".
• Our final speaker is scheduled to be Rafael H. Fonseca, Manager ONG Network Evolution & Application Group, Lucent Technologies, North Andover, MA. Rafael’s presentation will be on the "Introduction to the Technical Aspects of Optical Networking which includes both hardware & software Network Design.
