The CPMT Society is an excellent society, doing great things every day. But if we are going to be the society that members and potential members deserve, there are things that need to change. All CPMT committees have recently participated in a strategic planning process. The CPMT membership and chapter development committees are now dedicated to the new vision of "Providing a worldwide community through the development and support of global chapters and members in all corners of the industrialized world." An important part of the development of this worldwide community is developing and promoting the "value" of CPMT membership or chapter development.

What are the values of membership?
· Thirty-two local chapters where members have an opportunity to network with colleagues in their local area and the chance to hear presentations and participate in meetings on current topics.
· Twenty-two specialized technical committees that orchestrate much of the technical activity of CPMT through their support of conferences and publications.
· Continuing Education Programs including the "IEEE CPMT Professional Development Certificate" have been developed. Over five hundred people from around the world attended the ECTC Short Courses in May 2000. We have a vision to enable our members’ careers through lifelong learning by web-based courses.
· Twenty-eight global conferences and workshops supported by CPMT to allow members to "network the world."
· CPMT produces more archival papers than any other society dedicated to systems packaging – approximately 2400 pages each year. CPMT members now have access to all technical papers for the past 12 years at IEEExplore.ieee.org and at www.opera.ieee.org. We publish four transactions in the areas of Components and Packaging Technologies, Advanced Packaging, Electronics Package Manufacturing, and Semiconductor Manufacturing. All CPMT Transactions since 1954 are now available on a 9 CD-ROM set for $29.00 (includes shipping) for all CPMT members.

What are the values of CPMT Chapter Development?
· The Distinguished Lecturers Program will financially support CPMT distinguished lecturers to travel to local CPMT Chapters to provide technical presentations.
· A Chapter Subsidy Program to support local CPMT chapter membership and technical education programs.
· Each local CPMT Chapter is provided with a Chapter web site to promote their local programs
· Global and Regional Chapters meetings are held to train local chapter leaders in chapter operation and financial skills.
