EMAP - Hong Kong -- Big Success
The EMAP 2000 (Electronic Materials Packaging Conference) was held in Hong Kong from November 30 to December 2, 2000. There were 77 Technical Papers presented to 129 Conference attendees. Two full-day short courses and workshops that were held in conjunction with EMAP and these attracted 93 students. This conference attracted engineers from 12 countries and regions: China, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Romania, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the USA. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology hosted this meeting held at Clear Water Bay, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
The CPMT Board of Governors sent a delegation to this meeting as part of the ongoing Globalization efforts. In particular Tony Chan (Administrative Vice President), Bill Chen (Chair Professional Society Liaison), Al Puttlitz (Vice President Education), Rao Tummala (CPMT President), Paul Wesling (Publication Vice President), and C. P. Wong (former President) attended.
Rao Tummala was the
Keynote Speaker on Opening Day with
"A New Paradigm...SOP, System on Package, for Microsystem
of the Next Decade"
Paul Wesling was one of the Conference Luncheon Speakers with
"Multimedia Educational Modules in Electronic Packaging."
He showed video clips from several of the courses.
Anthony Chan was the Grande
Banquet Keynote Speaker with
"Growth in Telecom, Computer, Internet and their Impact
on Packaging"
Albert Puttlitz was the speaker at the Annual General CPMT Meeting.

Editorial:
The delegation from the CPMT Board to EMAP 2000 was excellently
received and added value to the conference. As a Society, we should
continue to send delegations to several international conferences
that have both CPMT sponsorship and active local CPMT chapters.
