TC-12 Meets at FDIP/EPEP

Flushed with the success of the back to back FDIP and EPEP meetings in October 2001, the CPMT Technical Committee of Electrical Design, Modeling and Simulation (TC-12) met on Sunday. Flavio Canavero from Italy presented a summary of the SPI workshop that was held in May 2001 in Venice. He also showed the plan for the SPI workshop in 2002, May 12 - 15, in Pisa, Italy. In 2001 they had 67 participants and 34 presentations. They will have 13 papers submitted for special issue of the Transactions. In 2002 the workshop will be jointly sponsored by CPMT and CS Society. Flavio would like to request that their digest have an IEEE Catalog Number. If this is approved, then they would increase the length of the papers from 2 pages to 4.

We also discussed the proposal for the Singapore workshop on December 10 -12, 2002, that will be held before EPTC 2002. We formed an international advisory committee based on the TC-12 members. The TC-12 members felt that it would be beneficial to have the CPMT Society help with the travel cost for a few invited speakers from the US that the TC would recommend in order to have good international representation at this Asian workshop. Without such support it will be impossible for industry folks to attend. In view of the Society's globalization effort, we feel that this would be useful support.

In 2002 TC-12 will be involved in organizing three workshops, FDIP, SPI, and Singapore (Workshop on Electrical Design Aspects for Components & System Packaging). We will be truly a global TC, covering three continents. At this point, the feeling in the TC-12 group is that we are a most successful TC.
